Notice: March 2022 Mall Event Cancelled
Due to concerns pertaining to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Westmoreland County ID/A Awareness Committee has made the decision to cancel the ID/A Awareness Westmoreland Mall event scheduled for March 12, 2022. While this is disappointing, we plan to organize an alternate virtual event this year to celebrate inclusion and respect all while maintaining a safe and healthy community. Stay tuned for more information to come your way soon.
"Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is an opportunity for all of us to respect the uniqueness of every person and better appreciate everyone's abilities and talents, and share in our common humanity. We have so much to learn from our friends with developmental disabilities, if only we allow ourselves. This is our chance."
- Former Westmoreland County Commissioner Ted Kopas
A Speech by Anthony Dixon

Hello, my name is Anthony Dixon. Well I am very sorry for Amanda Todd’s friends and family. I heard about her story from the internet, her story is sad. It is a story of bullying. I have been bullied by students at my school in the past. I've been teased, hit on, and laughed at during my younger days; so I relate and understand. Every night I pray that bullies would someday stop and actually think about what they are truly doing to others. To them it may be fun, funny, or just something to do, but to the victims it's much more than that. Bullying may cause depression, self-insecurity, or even suicide like Amanda. They don't care about hurting others. They have no respect for themselves. I consider the term retarded to be a form bullying. We must all work to eliminate the “R” word. We are citizens with Intellectual Disabilities and Developments. Please end the “R” word.
Thank you!
